Düwelsteen round
If you want to get to the bottom of ancient stories and still want to cycle in a relaxed manner, this is the right place for you. The 57-kilometre cycle tour combines ancient history and idyllic nature around Heiden. You will find the Düwelsteine somewhat hidden on sandy ground under the treetops of the Hohe Mark Nature Park. The impressive giant stone tomb is over 4,000 years old and the largest in the region. You can find out more about the history of the "Devil's Stones" on the information boards.
Further south, the Kranenmeer nature reserve is located in the beautiful landscape of the Münsterland, which enchants visitors with its gentle nature. The nature reserve may be small, but it is all the more valuable for that. It is home to one of the last remaining heather moors in Germany. Take your time and enjoy the wonderful flora and fauna.
In the far west of the cycle tour, the picturesque moated castle of Raesfeld is the highlight of the cycle tour. The highest castle tower in Westphalia is not the only reason why the castle is a popular excursion destination. The cafés and restaurants in the Freiheit, which is located right next to the castle, the picturesque moats and the historic zoo form a unique ensemble with the castle.
On your way to Borken, you will pass the historic Haus Döring. Its origins date back to the 12th century. It's worth paying a visit to the FARB, Borken's town museum, before returning to Heiden.
