The Tödden Round
Your cycle tour begins in Mettingen, the village of Tüöttendorf in the Tecklenburg region. It is known for its many remarkable half-timbered and sandstone buildings. The route runs along the Mittelland Canal to the marina "Marina Recke". This is particularly interesting for pleasure boating, but there are also well-developed permanent and guest moorings for leisure captains and boat owners.
After just a few kilometres you will pass the old Ruthemühle mill. The local history and basket museum with café offers a good opportunity for a short break. The route then continues through the Recker Moor nature reserve and the Düsterdieker Niederung bird sanctuary. Incidentally, the Düsterdieker Niederung is the largest wetland nature reserve in NRW.
Another highlight on this route is the Sloopsteene. This is a well-preserved barrow from the Neolithic period. On we go! Arriving in the municipality of Westerkappeln, more sights await you. There you will find Haus Cappeln, a former knight's estate, and the Protestant town church. Then you start the last section of the route back to Mettingen. A visit to the Tüötten Museum is a nice way to end the tour. The museum documents the history of the Tüötten trade and life and the development of linen from the plant to the finished bale.
