The historic Stiftsplatz forms the picturesque setting for numerous events in the town centre. In the calendar of events you will find, for example, the Winter Festival or the Martinimarkt. The events in the district of Appelhülsen also enjoy a good reputation.

The exhibition by Rüdiger Klebeck will be held at the Coesfeld District Nature Conservation Centre from 14 January to 14 April 2024 under the theme "Open your eyes!". He will be presenting a selection of sculptures made from Baumberg sandstone, wood and soapstone, as well as some objects made from a combination of wood and stone. The exhibition is framed, so to speak, by tree photographs entitled "The forest as a gallery" - "Open your eyes!" naturally also applies to this part of the exhibition. The photographs presented here were taken in the local tree mountains, in the Darßwald (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and in the Uckermark and Schorfheide (Brandenburg).
The basis for Rüdiger Klebeck's art is first and foremost intuition. It is like a common thread in the ideas for his works. He picks up on moods, feelings or states of being. In a number of the works, my view of the effects of human behaviour and the resulting consequences for our planet can also be found from time to time - in this way, he illustrates the current, man-made problems and presents them in his own way. In this way, "being human" appears again and again in different facets, not least to encourage reflection on our actions - and inactions.
The effect of some of these sculptures is reinforced by texts that open up a critical view of human behaviour, such as "Dance on the Volcano", "Crown of Creation?" or "Above and Below". Some of the works are quite large and impressive, while others are no less impressive, ranging from small works to miniatures. Of course, there are also exhibits that are simply dedicated to form.
"Augen auf!" is an exhibition that, in addition to the initial, somewhat superficial effect of the exhibits, in many places also aims to encourage visitors to "let themselves be affected". So it makes perfect sense to take your time and enjoy this exhibition, to let the impressions sink in, to read the texts on display about some of the works and perhaps to engage in conversation...
The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free.
