Events in Tecklenburg

Otto Modersohn spent several summers in Tecklenburg between 1884 and 1889.

He was inspired by the impressive landscapes of the Tecklenburg region, and many of his early works reflect his deep connection to the region's nature. For him, Tecklenburg was both a retreat and a place of artistic reflection and development, which had a lasting influence on his later work. The Otto Modersohn Room in the Tecklenburg Doll Museum honours his life and work and invites visitors to discover this important artist and his inspiration from nature.

On display are impressive works by photographers Simone Baumeister and Christiane Hoke, who often go on photography expeditions together. A particular highlight is that Simone Baumeister was recently awarded the prestigious international ‘Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ prize by the Natural History Museum in London. Simone Baumeister’s photographic work deliberately focuses on the natural world right on her doorstep. Her photographs are mainly taken in her local surroundings – on excursions through woods, meadows, moors and low mountain ranges. In projects that are often long-term in nature, she focuses on individual animal species, combining intensive observation of nature with high artistic standards. Christiane Hoke, too, combines her great passion for nature with photography. With her camera as her constant companion, she observes her surroundings attentively and captures special moments. Her images invite viewers to rediscover and appreciate the beauty of nature. 

The exhibition can be viewed at the museum until Sunday 26 July. The photographs can be viewed from 22 March onwards, every Saturday and Sunday from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Sounds Without Borders: Maqam Jazz Opens the Cultural Week in Lengerich

When Lengerich’s Culture Week is officially opened in the bistro of the historic Gempt Hall, the audience can look forward to a musical event that transforms geographical and stylistic boundaries into spaces for shared encounter.
The highlight of the evening will be the Egyptian-Canadian oud virtuoso and composer Ahmed Maher with his groundbreaking debut project Maktoub – an Arabic term meaning ‘written’ or ‘fate’.

As the official opening concert of Lengerich Culture Week, this evening offers a rare opportunity to experience first-class international musical culture up close in an intimate atmosphere.

Join the night watchman on an evening tour of discovery through the picturesque old town of Tecklenburg and accompany the vigilante on his exciting patrol through the twilight.

Do you know the beautiful half-timbered houses of the many farmers in Tecklenburg? Have you marvelled at the medieval ruins of the old castle? Do you know what the castle bastion under the castle hill is all about? No? Then come on an evening tour with the Tecklenburg night watchman!
Learn about mysterious places on this entertaining tour and listen to stories from ancient times - exciting, entertaining and with a special atmosphere. Discover secret passageways, dark alleyways and many a wicked place from a bygone era! Learn about the strict rules that once applied at night, how the citizens protected themselves from fire, thieves and riff-raff and the impressive way in which the counts of Tecklenburg were once able to expand their territory.

To mark Intercultural Week, Lengerich's catering establishments are transforming the city centre into an international feasting mile and offering typical local snacks to try - for a maximum of €5 per portion.

From German specialities to delicacies from Vietnam, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon to Italian delicacies, there is something for every taste.

There will also be great live music from bands and street musicians as well as a number of speciality stands.

Just look out for the country flags on the stalls and feast - bon appétit.
