Events in Warendorf

This tour criss-crosses 1200 years of settlement and town history. However, there is no need to cover long distances, as the points of interest are close together. In the centre of the town, the historic town hall and the old church of St. Laurentius are right next to each other.

The inconspicuous stone on the street corner becomes a speaking witness to the past. A journey through time that begins with the founding of the settlement on the Ems ford, continues along the cobbled streets of the old trading and Hanseatic town and ends in more recent history.

Early on Wednesday morning, bargain hunters and treasure hunters can find what they’re looking for at the big Old Town flea market. Anyone looking for bits and bobs such as pots and pans, corsetry, spices, cleaning products or leather goods will find what they’re after at the flea market on the Linnenwiese. All sorts of agricultural produce are also on offer. You can even buy poultry, cute rabbits and other small animals there. At the petting zoo, you can get up close and personal with farm animals.

On the guided tour of the DOKR grounds, you will learn a lot about the training facilities and conditions for German equestrian athletes and the promotion of young talent.

The display cases with countless trophies show the great successes of the German equestrian elite.

You will visit the sports centres and facilities and get a taste of intensive training.

As you walk through the listed stables, you will learn many interesting facts about bloodlines, breeding tasks and breeding successes and about the great economic importance of the stud's effective work in horse breeding for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In addition to the responsible preservation of traditional horse breeding, the NRW State Stud also organises unique events such as the Warendorf Stallion Parades and thus brings the pride of the State Stud closer to all horse lovers.

During Advent, the unique Warendorf Christmas market is a major attraction on the historic market square. Nestled amongst real fir trees, family-friendly and nostalgic activities complement this small but charming arts and crafts market. It’s a lovely spot to linger by the fire, enjoying culinary delights and mulled wine.

On the second Sunday of Advent, Warendorf’s Christmas market entices visitors with festive activities to experience and enjoy, and the shops are open for business.
