Events in Warendorf

Warendorf's calendar of events is always full to bursting. The annual highlights are the events at the Warendorf State Stud. The stallion parades and the parade by night are known far beyond the borders of the Münsterland region. If you want to be there, you need to secure your tickets quickly. The horse procession, the fat market, the medieval market and the Warendorf Christmas grove are further visitor magnets. There are also many other large and small events that you can find in our events calendar.

Party

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary has been celebrated in this special way in Warendorf for 270 years in honour of the Mother of God. Every year in mid-August, the arch communities erect the magnificent Marian arches, which are unique in Germany. The festive week with concerts and solemn church services culminates in the illumination on Saturday evening and the great town procession the next morning. In addition to the church festival, a large summer fair is held on the Linnenwiese and the Bürgerschützen celebrate their annual shooting festival.

guided tour

This tour criss-crosses 1200 years of settlement and town history. However, there is no need to cover long distances, as the points of interest are close together. In the centre of the town, the historic town hall and the old church of St. Laurentius are right next to each other.

The names of the streets and alleyways themselves tell a story and there is something to discover and learn everywhere. The inconspicuous stone on the street corner becomes a speaking witness to the past. A journey through time that begins with the founding of the settlement on the Ems ford, continues along the cobbled streets of the old trading and Hanseatic town and ends in more recent history.

From Zuckertimpen to Rüenschlüppe - the street names of our city

guided tour

The streets of Warendorf were once unpaved and you could hardly get from house to house in Bordingstraße, Twersefuhlke, Uppn Ort and Pastors Fuhlke without getting your feet wet.

Our tour guides use humour and background information to explain to participants what is behind these and other street names and what they are called today.

But there are also sequences about life back then, when women still had to bring two kettles for stew and home-brewed beer into the marriage. Participants will learn many interesting facts about the origin and meaning of the individual street names.

Registration required: please register by telephone on 02581 54545 or by e-mail at tourismus@warendorf.de.
