Gravenhorst Monastery for the Castles and Burgs Day

The former Cistercian monastery of Gravenhorst in Hörstel is an imposing monument in the Westphalian monastic landscape. It was renovated by the district of Steinfurt - with support from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia - as part of the "Regionale 2004 left and right of the Ems" and is now a lively art venue with a historical feel.

The DA, Kunsthaus offers an exciting experiential space for contemporary, cross-disciplinary art to participate in and think about. Changing exhibitions and art projects, light and sound art as well as art and history education - the DA, Kunsthaus is a communicative meeting place for everyone interested in the interplay of history, art and natural space.

Cycle tour from Ibbenbürener Aasee to the Kunsthaus

"Man, river!" - Cycle tour and reading on the Ibbenbürener Aa

11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Alisa Tretau, recipient of the KunstKommunikation project grant, invites the public on an unusual cycle tour. In her project "Mensch, Fluss!", the Berlin artist develops modern fairy tales about the rivers in the Steinfurt district. The route of the cycle tour leads from Ibbenbürener Aasee along the river and allows participants to acoustically rediscover the familiar waters.

Once at the DA, Kunsthaus, Tretau will give a first taste of her texts, which will culminate in a comprehensive soundscape in autumn. If you wish, you can enjoy a picnic in the idyllic atmosphere of the monastery park.

  • The DA, Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst is open free of charge from 11 am to 6 pm.
  • Fancy a little coffee break? Then you should visit the in-house Café Clara.
  • Free parking is available near the Kunsthaus.
  • There is a marked car park for people with disabilities (parking space size 310 x 400 cm) on the south side of the monastery grounds (drive from Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße onto Waldstraße and turn right behind the monastery pond).
  • Gravenhorst Monastery is located directly on the 100 Castles Route. Why don't you come by on your bike?
