For the fifth time, numerous houses opened their doors and gates on the "Münsterland Castles and Palaces Day 2022". On 19 June 2022 , visitors could take a look at knights' halls, wine cellars, tower rooms and castle parks. Did you, too, let yourself be enchanted by beautiful castles, palaces, manors and manor houses in the expansive park landscape of Münsterland? Between meadows and fields, activities and offers for young and old, culinary highlights, picnics, guided tours of the houses and grounds awaited the visitors. Be there (again) next year! Immerse yourself in the legendary history of the imposing Kakesbeck Castle! Situated a little out of the way, but absolutely worthwhile, is a visit to this historic property. Since 1971, the owners have been continuously restoring the castle and making it habitable again. Much has already been achieved.

On 19 June, three occasions to celebrate will come together here: Lüdinghausen and Vischering castles will be 750 years old, the Münsterland region will be celebrating the Münsterland Picnic Days, and not to be forgotten, of course, is the Castles and Palaces Day. So there's plenty on offer here for guests of all ages: from an art exhibition and puppet theatre to jazz and pop concerts, picnics, workshops and a puzzle tour for the whole family. What a programme!

In the past, wrongdoers were tied to the wall with iron collars and chains in the 6-metre-deep dungeon of Davensberg Castle Tower. Today it houses the local history museum with a torture room. But the tower is not only eerie. You can also learn about the traditional agricultural culture of the region.

The beautiful Wasserburg Vischering is an all-round experience for guests of all ages - with an interactive museum, exhibitions, gastronomy and much more. Haus Pröbsting, once a knight's estate and seat of nobility, was probably built in the 13th century. After reconstruction in 1988, it now shines as a beautiful moated castle and is the centrepiece of the leisure park of the same name. Only a few kilometres from Münster's city centre, you will find the charming Haus Rüschhaus. Built by the Baroque master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun and inhabited by the famous author Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, the house looks back on a long history. This historic estate will become a place of art, literature and music during the Droste Festival.

The beautiful Harkotten manor house is part of a double castle complex (rare in Germany). The historic wall paintings by Phillip Ferdinand Bartscher are particularly worth seeing here. In addition, the special exhibition "We are Rincklake" will open in time for the Palaces and Castles Day 2022.

Meanwhile, young guests can learn more about the art of archery.

The Kunsthaus Ruchniewitz, the so-called Haus Beckebans, is attractively situated in the heart of Billerbeck's old town. Still a farmhouse in the 15th century, it is now home to art in the form of paintings, light objects and many other works. On the occasion of the Palaces and Castles Day, the modern art house attracts visitors with its "Champagne Day".

The Museum Abtei Liesborn of the district of Warendorf is located in the baroque abbey residence of the former Benedictine abbey in Liesborn. The museum's extensive collection covers many areas of art and cultural history of the region.
