One of the most impressive palace complexes in Westphalia, including a stately park, also known as the "Westphalian Versailles", attracts over half a million visitors every year. A special attraction is the reconstructed Venus Island. The baroque garden also impresses with its garden art, many secluded spots and numerous avenues. Nordkirchen Castle is also home to the Finance College of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The motto of this guided tour is "Greek Mythology in the Baroque Era": During a tour through the gardens and the castle, you will learn more about the influence of ancient Greek myths on the estate. Here's a little foretaste: Nordkirchen Castle was built between 1703 and 1734. The sphinxes on the grounds, however, date from a later period. Napoleon's Egypt expedition (1798 - 1801) sparked off a veritable Egyptomania in Germany, and so Nordkirchen Castle is not the only manor house whose garden is adorned by a sphinx.
Please note: The tour of the castle is not barrier-free.
