Teuto Loop Canyon View
The Teutschleife Canyon Blick is a fantastic walking trail for nature lovers. The route covers a total of 11 kilometres, with an elevation gain of more than 700 metres. Magnificent views of the Lengerich Canyon and Osnabrück Cathedral, as well as beautiful woodland, are the hallmarks of this trail.
The starting point for your walk along the signposted Teutoschleife is the picturesque cemetery chapel at Hortensia Garden Lengerich. The garden was laid out in 2018 on the former cemetery grounds of the LWL Clinic as part of the Lengerich Sculpture Park and covers an area of around 10,000 square metres.
Just a few minutes’ walk from the start, the path leads uphill into the higher elevations of the Teutoburg Forest. No sooner have you left the forest behind than you’re rewarded with a view of Lengerich from the “Max und Moritz” hiking hut.
For the next few minutes, the route winds through meadows and along the edge of the forest to the four Brautteiche ponds. The cosy rest area is the perfect spot for a relaxing break. Once you’ve crossed the Leedener Mühlenbach, the church towers of the small collegiate village of Leeden come into view. Take a moment to admire the collegiate church and the former abbess’s house, dating from the 15th century.
Once past Leeden, you’ll finally reach the highest point of the walk: from the viewpoint at the former Lusthäuschen, the landscape opens up to reveal a magnificent panoramic view. On a clear day, you can even make out the spires of Osnabrück Cathedral on the horizon.
The route continues, mostly downhill, through meadows and small woods to Stapenhorst Estate. Beyond the path, you’ll now head uphill again to approach the highlight of the tour: theturquoise waters of the canyon will impress you and make for a fantastic photo opportunity. The flora and fauna that have made their home in this nature reserve are also unique. It’s well worth allowing some time to stop and explore here. From here, it’s not far to your final destination in Lengerich. Passing through the sculpture park, you’ll reach the cemetery chapel once more.
