The Waldauenweg is one of the quality trails of the seven "Teuto loops" and lives up to its name. Almost the entire 6-kilometre route leads through the forests of the Tecklenburger Land. The starting point of the hike is the "Teutohang" hikers' car park in Hörstel-Riesenbeck. After 256 steps on the "Himmelsleiter" (ladder to heaven ), a first highlight awaits you: the vantage point above Riesenbeck is aptly named "Schöne Aussicht" (beautiful view) and offers a magnificent panoramic view of Riesenbeck and the Münsterland.
Your hike leads along the Hermannsweg above Riesenbeck to the "Wilhelmsruh" rest stop. A short time later you leave the Hermannsweg and hike through an impressive natural landscape. Past ancient trees and imposing rocks, the trail leads down into the valley. The next destination is Lager Berg, which you reach on slightly ascending hiking trails.
The next few minutes of the trail are characterised by the alternation of wooded surroundings and large pastures that offer beautiful views. Before you reach your starting point again via pronounced serpentines, you should once again enjoy the view from the balcony of Münsterland over Riesenbeck and the Dortmund-Ems Canal.
