The Davert

The Davert is a densely wooded cultural landscape on the border between the districts of Warendorf and Coesfeld and the city of Münster. Together with the neighbouring Hohe Ward, it is home to the largest contiguous woodland area in Münsterland.

Due to its great biodiversity, the Davert has been designated a bird and nature reserve. Among other things, you will find many old oaks, hornbeams and fluttering elms here. If you look closely, you might spot middle spotted woodpeckers, great spotted woodpeckers and other species, as well as bats and honey buzzards. The "Davert" is also known as a butterfly forest - if you're lucky, you might come across a rare Schiller butterfly.

Tips for cyclists and hikers

If you leave Münster heading south by bike, you will almost inevitably pass through the Davert nature reserve. The forests offer cooling shade, especially in summer. South of the Davert, the Münsterland palace and castle region opens up with some of its most beautiful buildings. Nordkirchen Castle and Vischering Castle can be reached practically without any major metres in altitude.

Do you prefer travelling on foot? The car park "Wanderparkplatz Weidelandschaft Davert" is the ideal starting point for a visit to the nature reserve. From there, it's just under a kilometre to the "Wildbahn Davert" viewing platform.

Davert

The Davert is a valuable woodland area and a sanctuary for flora and fauna. It is highly sensitive to disturbance. Please stay on the marked paths and do not use any footpaths that have been trodden down. Please keep your dog on a lead and do not leave any rubbish behind. Avoid making noise so as not to startle wild animals and nesting birds, such as the rare middle spotted woodpecker. Open fires and barbecues are strictly prohibited in the nature reserve. The Davert will reward you with many wonderful moments.

Travelling to Davert by bus and train

Let’s work together to preserve what’s good! Use buses and trains to get here and help protect the climate and the environment. In the Münsterland region, this is often much easier than you might think.

You can reach the southern part of the Davert via Ascheberg-Davensberg station.
Ascheberg-Davensberg station is served by trains from Dortmund, Lünen and Münster. The walking and cycling trails through the Davert start just a few metres away.
You can reach the “Amelsbüren-Süd” bus stop in the northern part of the Davert on bus route 1 from Amelsbüren station or Münster Central Station.

Münster Central Station offers connections from numerous German cities.
