Dahlia garden Legden picnic area

The dahlia garden in the centre of Legden invites you to relax. Surrounded by a sea of flowers, you can enjoy your picnic here and learn about the 180 different species.
Right next to the old Romanesque sandstone church of St Brigida and surrounded by many private gardens, the publicly accessible park is not just a great place for a picnic. The two large lawns and the playground are also a wonderful place to play and be active. You can discover herb plants in the raised bed and watch the water feature from the many seating areas.

Tip: There is also a bookcase in the dahlia garden!

The Dahlia Garden Legden e.V.

The "Dahliengarten Legden e. V." association was founded to look after the dahlia beds. The purpose of the association is to promote the sustainable development of the dahlia garden. The association promotes the creation, maintenance and improvement of the garden and its associated facilities as a place of cultural life, as an integrative meeting place for all generations and as a place of peace and relaxation.

The Dahlia Garden team offers various events and guided tours by appointment.

Horsemanship Ground work course - Riding course with Erich Busch

Workshop

From 14 to 16 August 2026, a versatile ground work and riding course will take place with Erich Busch, Western Trainer B (EWU/VFD), horse trainer and veterinary practitioner.


The course kicks off on 14 August with a demo evening from 19:00 to 21:30. In a relaxed atmosphere, horsemanship and practical insights into horse training will take centre stage, complemented by exchange and discussion.

The intensive ground work and riding course will follow on 15 and 16 August, from 9:00 to 17:00. Participation is with your own horse and is aimed at both beginners and advanced riders. The focus is on improving aids, clear communication between horse and rider and the precise execution of exercises.


A practical weekend for sound training, greater understanding and finer coordination in dealing with the horse.

Music
On Saturday, 15 August 2025, the programme starts at 6 pm in Legden directly behind the church. Stroll through the dahlia garden in the evening, enjoy the pompom and cactus dahlias and spend a few pleasant hours. The dahlia garden team invites you to do so again this summer until 11 pm. Food and drink will of course be provided.


On Sunday, 16 August 2025, the festival begins at 1 pm with live music and coffee and cake. A colourful supporting programme in the dahlia garden invites the whole family to have a great time in the centre of Legden next to the church.
