Welcome to Hopsten!

In Hopsten, THE GOOD LIFE awaits you between the historic village centre and many leisure activities in the green Münsterland. The 7,600 inhabitants live in three districts of different sizes.

On the border between Westphalia and Lower Saxony

Hopsten is located in the northern district of Steinfurt, on the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. Commuters here benefit from good connections in all directions, for example to the nearby towns of Rheine and Ibbenbüren.

It only takes an hour by car to get to Münster, and about 45 minutes to Osnabrück and the Dutch city of Enschede. The district town of Steinfurt is about 35 minutes away by car, and you can reach Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) almost as quickly. Those who like to travel to the sea are also in good hands in Hopsten: It only takes two hours to reach the North Sea coast via the nearby motorways.

Tip: The Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

Living in Hopsten

In addition to the baroque church, the historic centre of Hopsten is home to many pretty houses of the Tödden, wandering merchants who used to sell their goods in the Netherlands and other neighbouring countries. The two districts of Schale and Halverde are around ten minutes by car to the north and north-east of the Tödden village. They have their own village centres, where you can also discover some beautiful old buildings.
Around 5300 of the total population of 7600 live in the main town, with around 1200 people living in Schale and around 1000 in Halverde.

Even though rental and purchase prices are following the general property trend overall, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland when it comes to building, buying or renting. Here you can find the average purchase and rental prices for a house or flat in rural Münsterland.

If you would like to build a house for your family in Hopsten, you can take a look at the building areas with urban building plots here.

Shopping in Hopsten

If you live in Halverde or Schale, you can buy everything you need for everyday life in the Halverde village shop. In Hopsten there are several supermarkets and a large drinks market. There is also an optician, a flower shop and fashion shops in the village centre. And as almost everywhere in Münsterland, you can get everything you need for your tour by bike or e-bike in specialist bicycle shops.
Would you like to do some extensive shopping? The Designer Outlet Ochtrup is only half an hour away by car.

Hopsten has a total of six kindergartens for its youngest residents. One of the centres is located in each of the districts of Schale and Halverde, the other four in the village centre.
