The Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) is a municipal association. A total of 17,000 employees work under its roof for the 8.3 million people in the region. It runs 35 special schools, 21 hospitals, 18 museums and two visitor centres and is also one of the largest German aid payers for people with disabilities. The LWL thus fulfils important tasks in the social sector, in care for the disabled and youth, in psychiatry and in culture. These tasks are carried out throughout Westphalia. It is also committed to an inclusive society in all areas of life. Social welfare, psychiatry, correctional services, youth and schools and culture - these are the five fields in which the LWL performs its tasks, for example by running museums, schools, psychiatric and forensic clinics: There are now more than 180 such facilities.
