Wettringen
Wettringen is a community with heart and tradition, "Dat Hiärtken van de Wiält" - as a Low German local poet once put it. The municipality is located where the Aa and Vechte rivers meet. Wettringen: It is also one of the most cycle-friendly places in the whole of Germany. In the ADFC Cycling Climate Test 2024, the municipality came first in the category for towns with up to 20,000 inhabitants and achieved the best overall score of all towns in Germany.
Castle romance right in the neighbourhood
Located close to the Dutch border and the state border with Lower Saxony, Wettringen is an ideal starting point for tours and trips through the beautiful Münsterland region. Numerous signposted hiking, cycling and riding trails offer the opportunity to explore the surrounding area at your own pace. The Bentlage Monastery in Rheine, Haus Welbergen in Ochtrup and Steinfurt Castle exude the romance of castles in the area surrounding Wettringen. The Rothenberg area, the Brechte nature reserve and the heathland around Haddorfer See lake offer beautiful views of nature.
