When the first fairy lights come on, it’s that time of year again: the town of Vreden invites you to a very special start to the Advent season for the whole family on the first weekend of Advent. In a lovingly organised community event, popular activities are brought together to create a unique Christmas experience.

From the Saturday before the first Sunday in Advent, it’s time for the ‘Horst’ decoration event for the eleventh year running. Since 2014, Ideenfabrik Vreden has been organising a communal Christmas tree decoration event on the town’s market square during the first weekend of Advent. The tree in question – known as the ‘Horst’ – is traditionally one of the main attractions of the town’s Christmas decorations.

Under the slogan ‘Vreden sings!’, Vreden City Marketing once again invites you to the festively decorated stage in the middle of the market square. Here, people come together to make music, laugh and sing.

Near the Dutch border, the Ammelo Christmas market opens its doors every year, bringing together the best of both Germany and the Netherlands. Traditional Christmas market stalls are set up around the church, offering a wide variety of handicrafts and gifts.

A wide variety of cultural delicacies are on offer to satisfy your appetite.

During the Christmas market, the Heimathaus hosts a nativity scene exhibition that attracts numerous visitors.

The youth fire brigade provides signposted parking spaces for a small fee, which goes towards funding their youth work.
