Seasonal products from the Münsterland
In earlier times, people did not have much choice when it came to eating: The menu was made up of the foods that were available regionally and seasonally. Today it is different: products from all over the world come to Germany and are often available all year round. That is not sustainable.
So it's better to reach for fresh vegetables and fruit from the region! The shorter the distance the food has to travel, the better the CO2 balance. Another plus point is that you are supporting local farmers and producers. And not only that: regional and seasonal products often taste better. Why? Local produce can ripen fully and does not have to travel long distances unripe.
You can see when which fruits and vegetables are in season in Münsterland in the seasonal calendar of the opentruck at Münster University of Applied Sciences - a mobile exhibition space that tours through Münsterland and provides information about healthy eating.
