Nordkirchen Castle picnic area

Baroque lovers and picnic fans take note! Nordkirchen Castle, known as the "Westphalian Versailles", is one of the best-known and most popular excursion destinations in the Münsterland region. This fully preserved baroque complex impresses with its architecture and is picturesquely nestled in extensive parkland near the centre of Nordkirchen. Inviting footpaths meander through the idyllic castle park and lead directly to the castle, whose inner courtyard is freely accessible at all times.

There is a picnic area in the castle park with a unique backdrop: With a view of Oranienburg Palace, you can take a break in the middle of the greenery, enjoy your picnic and the unique view. There are several high-quality equipment elements available for your picnic: Two picnic tables, two seating areas, two picnic platforms and a wave lounger invite you to linger. There is plenty of space for a picnic with friends and family.

Before or after your picnic, you can explore the castle on a long walk through the castle park or hop back on your bike to continue exploring the Münsterland region along the 100 Castles Route or numerous other cycle routes. If you're in the mood for art and culture, you can also marvel at the interior of Nordkirchen Castle on a public guided tour.

Accessibility & Parking

Travelling by train and bus:

  • Travelling by train: The journey by train is via the train station Capelle (Westf), Nordkirchen. From there, the picnic area can be reached by bus.
  • By bus: Take the T52 bus from Werne or the R53 from Lüdinghausen or the B12 from Südkirchen. Get off at the bus stop Nordkirchen, Schlosspark.

Travelling by car:

  • via the A1 motorway junction Ascheberg or Werne-Nord
  • via the A2 motorway junction Castrop-Rauxel or Dortmund-Nordost
  • via the A43 Dülmen junction
  • via the B54 or B58

Car park:

There is a large free car park between the castle and the town. A path leads directly from the car park through the castle park to the castle.
There are also a few car parks directly at the Oranienburg.
