88 kilometres, 240 metres of elevation gain and pure parkland await you on this road bike tour, which leads from Münster to the district of Warendorf. The idea for the road bike route came from Michael Sandner, Chairman of Radclub Münster e.V.
The starting point of the road bike tour is the Misurina ice cream parlour in Münster-Wolbeck. An ice cream on the go or in the pub is a must, whether before or after your tour. Then it's off in the direction of Drostenhof Wolbeck, a former castle manor from the 16th century, which can only be admired from the outside.
The route continues out of Wolbeck and into the green parkland of the Münsterland towards Telgte. Shortly before Telgte, however, you first cycle to Müssingen, a district of Warendorf. Meadows and fields line the route along Lake Kottrup on the outskirts of Warendorf. Opposite the lake is the Austermann farm with its café and farm shop, which is known for its cucumber specialities.
Warendorf is characterised by its romantic old town with its medieval market square and is widely known as the "horse metropolis". You cycle past the River Ems and Lake Ems in a relaxed manner. Finally, you reach the Feldmark recreation area in Sassenberg, in the centre of which lies the Feldmarksee lake. The area is an attractive excursion destination and, with its appealing catering facilities, is perfect for a break.
Once you have left the Füchtorfer Moor behind you, you will reach the Cistercian monastery of Vinnenberg, built around 1250. The historic monastery mill nearby is also worth a visit. The country inn "Zum Kühlen Grunde" is a great place to stop for a bite to eat. In the summer months, the pub's large beer garden right next to the mill pond invites you to linger.
The route continues through idyllic parkland to the Hanseatic town of Telgte - a nationally renowned place of pilgrimage with a charming old town centre and a location on the River Ems. From Telgte, the route continues towards Alverskirchen back to the starting point of your tour in Wolbeck. If you enjoy drinking grain or liqueur, you can take a short detour to the Gerbermann grain distillery along the way. Agricultural products and high-quality spirits have been produced here for almost 150 years.
