Welcome to Lotte!

The approximately 14,000 inhabitants of Lotte enjoy THE GOOD LIFE in a quiet village on the outskirts of Osnabrück. The municipality consists of four districts of different sizes, all of which have a cohesive village character.

A Westphalian community on the outskirts of Osnabrück

The municipality of Lotte is located in the district of Steinfurt, only 20 minutes by car west of the city centre of Osnabrück. It takes about 45 minutes to drive to Münster and Bielefeld, and about 25 minutes to Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO). The district town of Steinfurt is 45 minutes away, and further west you can reach the Netherlands, for example the popular city of Enschede, within an hour. Via the A1, which runs directly past Lotte, you can reach the North Sea coastin one and a half hours.

Commuters benefit not only from the good motorway connections: In the district of Halen there is also a small railway station where trains to Osnabrück and Bremen stop.

Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

Living in Lotte

The municipality of Lotte includes the four districts of Alt-Lotte, Büren, Halen and Wersen. A good 5,000 of the total of around 14,000 inhabitants live in the southernmost village of Alt-Lotte, while Halen, with around 1,400 inhabitants, is located in the far north of the municipality. The centrally located village of Wersen is home to just under 3,500 people, followed to the east by the village of Büren with 4,500 inhabitants, which borders directly on Osnabrück.

Even if rental and purchase prices overall follow the general real estate trend, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland for building, buying or renting. In the rural area of Münsterland, the average rental price per square metre is between five and seven euros, and the average purchase price for flats and houses per square metre is 2100 euros.

Shopping in Lotte

In Alt-Lotte, Wersen and Büren you have short distances in everyday life: All three villages have at least one supermarket, bakeries and restaurants. From Halen, you can reach the shopping facilities in Wersen in just a few minutes. In addition, there are various specialist shops in the community, for example furniture shops, toy shops and electrical shops. Bicycles, e-bikes and accessories are available from specialist retailers throughout Münsterland.
By the way, it's not only neighbouring Osnabrück that invites you to go shopping; the popular Designer Outlet Ochtrup is only 45 minutes away by car.

Childcare and schools in Lotte

There are about eight day-care centres and kindergartens in Lotte for the youngest children. There is at least one childcare facility in every district.

There is a primary school in each of the districts of Lotte, Büren and Wersen. At the Lotte-Westerkappeln comprehensive school, pupils can obtain all qualifications up to the Abitur, whereby the upper secondary school is located at the Westerkappeln site.

Working in Lotte

Lotte is a classic commuter community: many people drive from here to work in the surrounding towns, especially Osnabrück. However, the two industrial estates to the north of Alt-Lotte and between Wersen and Büren are home not only to small and medium-sized businesses but also to some well-known companies. Among the largest are the toy retailer Vedes, the wholesaler Lekkerland, the haulage company Sostmeier, the automotive supplier FRIMO Group and the company Elster Kromschröder, which manufactures components for industrial furnaces, among other things.
