Welcome to Metelen!

Metelen is located in the district of Steinfurt in the north-western Münsterland, not far from the Dutch border. The popular shopping city of Enschede, for example, can be reached by car in around 35 minutes. You can reach Münster and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) almost as quickly, and Osnabrück is an hour's drive away. The district town of Steinfurt is only 15 minutes away. A great advantage for commuters: a regional train runs from Metelen station to Münster and Enschede.

The North Sea coast is not far from here either: via the nearby A31 motorway you can reach the sea in two hours.

Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

Metelen is also known as the "Vechte town": The small river Vechte meanders through the centre of the town and there is a historic mill on the banks of the Vechte. The municipality consists mainly of residential areas in which the approximately 6400 inhabitants live.
In addition to the main town, Metelen also includes two rural farming communities. There is an industrial estate in the north-east.

The neighbouring town of Heek also has a secondary school.

Metelen has a colourful mix of trades, services, commerce and industry, and many residents also work in agriculture. In addition to small and medium-sized businesses, the municipality is also home to a number of well-known companies, for example the sausage manufacturer Feldhues-Group, Kremer Stahltechnik, the confectionery manufacturer Sulá, a location of the mechanical engineering company Wheelabrator-Group and a location of the company Peugeot Saveurs (PSP Germany), which manufactures spice mills, among other things.
