In Mettingen, THE GOOD LIFE comes together in a historic town on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest with good transport connections. The 12,000 inhabitants of the municipality live in the centre of the town and in several rural villages.
Mettingen is located between Osnabrück and Rheine in the district of Steinfurt, on the border with Lower Saxony. Osnabrück and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) can be reached by car in half an hour, and Münster and the district town of Steinfurt are around 50 minutes away. Most of the 12,000 inhabitants of Mettingen live in the main town, but the municipality also includes twelve rural farming communities.
The pretty centre of the village is characterised by a number of very different historical buildings. The landmark of the village is the neo-Gothic St. Agatha Church of the Catholic community, not far away is the Protestant Church - it is the oldest building in Mettingen. In addition, several historic half-timbered and sandstone buildings as well as many Tüöttenvillen - the splendid houses of the Tödden, travelling merchants who used to deliver goods to neighbouring countries - have been preserved.
