Tasks in the tourism sector

The Münsterland is known and loved far beyond its borders as an active region for cyclists and horse riders, as well as for its castles and palaces. The tourism division of Münsterland e.V. bundles, develops and markets the offers and strengthens the image through other themes such as picnics and gardens and parks.

In addition to the 1000-kilometre Münsterland Riding Route, Münsterland e.V. promotes more than 5000 kilometres of cycle paths. Also beyond the region: as the seat of the office of the R1 European Cycle Route in NRW and the Federal Working Group Germany on Horseback, it presents the Münsterland region supraregionally and contributes its expertise to networks throughout Germany.

Münsterland Tourism Centre

The Tourism Centre, which also develops packages and acquires and classifies accommodation, serves as the central and often first point of advice and booking for guests. Online, the tourism department manages and maintains both the OBIS reservation system for booking accommodation in the entire Münsterland region and the Münsterland tour planner, which offers suggestions for cycling and riding routes, but above all supports the individual compilation of a route.

In addition, the tourism division markets the destination to specific target groups at trade fairs, events and especially via various channels on the internet.

Funding projects

The region's profile is further enhanced by its own promotional projects and projects as a cooperation partner. The goal is to increase the quality of service and infrastructure, to network tourism experts and businesses with each other and to promote digitalisation.

This is what various funding projects are currently doing. The large-scale project "Münsterland Castles and Palaces Region - Strengthening SMEs through Innovative Tourism Infrastructures and Services" is a major step towards effective marketing of the region. With a total volume of around 10 million euros, it is one of the largest projects the region has ever jointly initiated.

The project "Quality Management in the Münsterland Destination" promotes the exchange of information among the stakeholders via the central e-platform www.touristiker-muensterland.de. In addition, cycling and riding routes are to be improved.

With the open data project "Tourist Data Management NRW: Open, Networked, Digital", Münsterland e.V. makes the region's tourism data visible. Structured and licensed, the data is open to all interested stakeholders.
