Romans and castles

This circular route follows the southernmost honeycomb of Radelpark Münsterland No. 187, passing the moated castles of Haus Assen and Schloss Hovestadt with its beautiful baroque garden, the St. Ida Basilica in Herzfeld, Westphalia's oldest place of pilgrimage. Then continue to the Oestinghausen church square with St. Stephanus Church and Heimathaus, to the picturesque Ahsewiesen nature reserve and past Sändkers Mühle in Hultrop. On this route you will discover the contrasts in Lippe Valley. To the north of the Lippe, the special features of the Münsterland dominate with scattered settlements and extensive parkland with old trees and forests. To the south, the typical features of the Soester Börde are evident, with fertile farmland and established villages.
This route is flat and mainly leads along farm tracks, so you can pedal in a relaxed manner.

The garden at Hovestadt Castle is always worth a visit. The hedge theatre with its curves and twists is particularly beautiful.
