In Lienen, THE GOOD LIFE in the countryside comes together with many sports facilities and good transport connections. The 8500 inhabitants of the municipality live in the districts of Lienen and Kattenvenne as well as some rural Bauerschaften.
Lienen is located in the district of Steinfurt in the north-eastern Münsterland on the border to Lower Saxony, on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Münster by car, and you can reach Bielefeld and the district town of Steinfurt just as quickly. Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) and Osnabrück are about half an hour away. The popular city of Enschede in the Netherlands is also just over an hour away. Via the nearby A1 motorway you also have a direct connection to the North Sea coast and can reach the sea in just under two hours.
A plus for commuters: regional trains to Münster, Osnabrück and Düsseldorf run from the station in the Kattenvenne district.
Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.
Lienen is home to a total of 8,500 people. The municipality consists of the main town of Lienen and the smaller district of Kattenvenne, which is a good ten minutes' drive southwest of the village centre. In addition, seven farming communities belong to Lienen, six of which are located to the south of the main village. The Holperdorp district is located in the far north of the municipality on the Lower Saxony border - on the way from the main town to the small district you cross the Teutoburg Forest.
Even if rental and purchase prices follow the general real estate trend, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland for building, buying or renting. In the rural area of Münsterland, the average rental price per square metre is between five and seven euros, and the average purchase price for flats and houses per square metre is 2100 euros.

For shopping, it is not far from Lienen to Osnabrück and Münster, and the popular Designer Outlet Ochtrup is only an hour's drive away.
The very young are cared for in Lienen and Kattenvenne in around four kindergartens and day-care centres, including a Waldorf facility. There is a primary school in each of the districts of Lienen and Kattenvenne. In addition, there is a Waldorf school in the municipality that offers all qualifications up to the Abitur. Secondary schools are located in neighbouring towns, for example in Lengerich.
