THE GOOD LIFE in the countryside and the international cultural scene meet in Schöppingen. The 7,000 inhabitants of the municipality live in the core town, the district of Eggerode and the small farming communities.
Schöppingen is located in the district of Borken near Ahaus and Steinfurt. Commuters benefit from the good connections in all directions: Münster and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) are about 40 minutes away by car. You can reach the Dutch city of Enschede and the district town of Borkenjust as quickly. Dortmund is just under an hour and a half away by car.
The North Sea coast can be reached in just under two and a half hours via the nearby A31 motorway.
Tip: The Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.
In addition to the town centre, Schöppingen also includes the village-like district of Eggerode and several farming communities. Industrial and commercial areas adjoin the town centre and the housing estates of Schöppingen to the southwest and north. Many individual farms are scattered in the surrounding landscape, which together form the village's Bauerschaften.
Eggerode, which consists mainly of residential areas, is barely ten minutes by car from the centre of the village. It is home to around 800 of the municipality's 7,000 inhabitants.
Even if rental and purchase prices overall follow the general real estate trend, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland for building, buying or renting. In rural Münsterland, the average rental price per square metre is between five and seven euros, and the average purchase price for flats and houses per square metre is 2100 euros.

International artists and authors live and work in two listed manor houses, exhibit their works or present them at events and readings. Eggerode is also known beyond the region: It is a place of pilgrimage; every year many pilgrims visit the statue of Mary in the small chapel of grace.
