In Südlohn, THE GOOD LIFE awaits you in a lively village in the countryside with many leisure opportunities in nature. The municipality consists of two districts and several rural farming communities.
The municipality of Südlohn is located in the district of Borken in the western Münsterland, directly on the Dutch border. The neighbouring town of Winterswijk, which is a popular destination not least because of its open Sundays, is only 20 minutes away by car, Enschede about 45 minutes. The district town of Borken is 15 minutes away by car. Münster can be reached in about an hour, as can Münster/Osnabrück (FMO) and Weeze airports.
You also have a direct connection to the North Sea coast via the nearby A31 motorway and can reach the sea in just two and a half hours.
Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.
Südlohn consists of the eponymous main town and the smaller district of Oeding, which lies about ten minutes by car west of the centre on the Dutch border. Both districts have grown over the past decades, and today a total of 9,300 people live in the municipality. The town also includes several rural farming communities with many individual farmsteads, which lie in the middle of the Münsterland park landscape.
In the east of Oeding and in the south of Südlohn there are industrial and commercial areas where various large specialist retailers as well as small and medium-sized craft and industrial enterprises are located.
Even though rental and purchase prices overall are following the general real estate trend, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland for building, buying or renting. In rural Münsterland, the average rental price per square metre is between five and seven euros, and the average purchase price for flats and houses per square metre is 2100 euros.

In addition to various supermarkets, the two districts offer even more shopping opportunities. As in almost all communities in the Münsterland, you can get a large selection of bicycles, e-bikes and accessories at bicycle shops, for example. In Südlohn you can also shop in a large fashion shop with a department for wedding and evening dresses, in flower shops and a specialist shop for musical instruments. There are also fashion shops and a shoe shop in Oeding.
You can also shop extensively at the Designer Outlet Ochtrup, which is only half an hour away by car.
