The 9,000 inhabitants of Tecklenburg enjoy THE GOOD LIFE with extraordinary cultural events in a small medieval town near Osnabrück. They live in four districts of roughly equal size. Tecklenburg is known throughout the area for its special open-air theatre, among other things.
On the edge of the Teutoburg Forest
Tecklenburg is located in the eastern district of Steinfurt, half an hour's drive from Osnabrück. You can reach Münster almost as quickly, and the district town of Steinfurt is only 40 minutes away. Bielefeld and the popular Dutch city of Enschede are just under an hour's drive away.
Tip for your holiday: You can reach the North Sea coast in just under two hours via the nearby motorways. Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) is only 20 minutes away.
Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.
Living in Tecklenburg
The town of Tecklenburg consists of four districts. The centrally located district of Tecklenburg , which gives the town its name, is home to about 2400 of the total population of 9000. Throughout the year, festivals and markets take place in the medieval town centre with its pretty half-timbered houses. The somewhat larger district of Brochterbeck , with about 2700 inhabitants, lies to the west of the old town, and the smallest district of Ledde (1700 inhabitants) lies to the north. The village of Leeden (2200 inhabitants) to the east is the oldest district.
Even though rental and purchase prices overall are following the general real estate trend, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland for building, buying or renting. In rural Münsterland, the average rental price per square metre is between five and seven euros, and the average purchase price per square metre for flats and houses is 2,100 euros.

Did you know...?!
Tecklenburg is sometimes called "Westphalian Rothenburg" because the historic town centre resembles that of the well-known town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria. The old town is a listed building.
Shopping in Tecklenburg
There is at least one supermarket in every district of Tecklenburg and there are restaurants everywhere, so that you always have short distances to cover in your everyday life. If you want to go shopping , the old town of Tecklenburg is the place to be: there are many small shops in the small streets and alleys, for example fashion and shoe shops and gift shops. The Designer Outlet Ochtrup, which you can reach by car in 45 minutes, also invites you to go on extensive shopping tours.
Childcare and schools in Tecklenburg
In the districts of Tecklenburg, Brochterbeck, Ledde and Leeden there are around seven kindergartens and day care centres as well as one large day care centre. You can also find available childcare places online in the "STEP - Kreis Steinfurt Elternportal" (STEP - District of Steinfurt Parents Portal), where you can also make a direct enquiry.
The educational facilities in Tecklenburg provide the best possible care for pupils of all ages - from the first day of school to the Abitur:
