Theatre makes us laugh, cry and think. It inspires and touches us. The Münster Theatre is no exception. It is one of the city's largest cultural institutions and has a long tradition since its first performance in 1956. With its five sections - music theatre, drama, dance theatre, concert and young theatre - it offers its audience a varied programme. This includes the great classics as well as world premieres. In addition, the symphony concerts of the Münster Symphony Orchestra take place here. The approximately 600 performances and around 30 premieres a year take place in the large house, the small house and in the U2 venue. The house itself, with its special architecture, is considered the "thunderbolt of theatre architecture".
You can find the complete programme on the theatre's website.
In 1774, Franz Freiherr von Fürstenberg had the so-called Komödienhaus built in a former slaughterhouse: Münster's first municipal theatre. The singspiels and operas in the theatre building were very popular. But in 1890 the building was demolished. This was followed by the Lortzinger Theatre, which, however, did not withstand the bombardments of the Second World War. Due to financial constraints, a new theatre could not be built for the time being. But the project was pursued further: Numerous architects submitted their designs. Thanks to the generosity and support of many benefactors, the colossal project, which took 20 months to build and cost DM 5.3 million, finally began in 1954. In February 1956, the curtain of the new building rose for the first time for Mozart's Magic Flute.

The Kommunale Kino Coesfeld will be showing the documentary "Heaven can wait - Wer leben jetzt" by Sven Halfar at Cinema Coesfeld, Holtwicker Straße 2, on Tuesday, 05.12.2023, 7.30 pm and as a matinée on Sunday, 10.12.2023, 12.00 pm, D 2023, FSK: o. A., 103 minutes, admission: 6.50 euros.
About the content:
The documentary looks at a choir from Hamburg, in which everyone is at least 70 years old and brings a piece of real freedom into their lives through singing. This is not always easy, as they have to overcome the nervousness of opening up in front of an audience. Many people of this generation do not find it easy, because feelings are not part of what they have learned to talk about - and certainly not to sing about. But in the community of the choir, that too suddenly seems possible. But then the Corona pandemic also reached Germany and presented the choir with completely new challenges.

Climate change and the energy crisis have led to considerable upheaval in the energy industry. However, all government measures are bound by the constitutional principle of the protection of legitimate expectations, which also applies to contract law between citizens and companies in the form of the principle of contractual obligations. Anyone who has concluded an energy supply contract, for example, can generally trust that the energy supplier will not unilaterally change the terms of the contract. However, there are limits to this, which in turn are not unlimited. The question also arises as to the extent to which the state can demand investments in the energy sector from its citizens, keyword: heating replacement. The lecture is intended to give an impression of the questions that need to be raised when assessing the legal permissibility of onerous measures in the areas described and the legal structures that can be used to answer them.

The public debates of the last three years show just how little colonial history has been forgotten. Monuments and street names that refer to "colonial heroes" are just the tip of the iceberg. Pro-colonial associations, ethnological collectibles, the role of the mission and economic interdependencies are also part of the topic.
Nationwide reporting suggests that the colonial traces are to be found primarily in Berlin and Hamburg. Far from it. The historical region of Westphalia in particular has been the subject of above-average research for the past 20 years and deserves more attention. Using concrete examples from the Münsterland and the whole of Westphalia, the aim is to show which traces have already been debated and made visible in public spaces. However, we will also discuss what has not yet been recognised. This applies above all to rural areas, which are still completely underrepresented in research.
