A cool bike ride for hot days

Fancy a refreshing cycle ride when the temperatures rise? This 66 km route offers just the thing: three idyllic lakes where you can swim, two picturesque rivers to keep you cool along the way, and even a real beach atmosphere at Feldmarksee. Shady woods, cool rest stops and a refreshing mist spray in Ostbevern provide the necessary respite from the heat along the way. And because a ride in the heat just isn’t complete without ice cream, there are several ice-cream parlours along the route where you can enjoy a sweet break. Perfect for enjoying the summer on your bike in a relaxed and refreshed way!

Start: Ostbevern Town Hall Square

Start your tour at Ostbevern Town Hall and make sure you fill up with plenty of free water from the drinking fountain there before setting off. The very first stop, Loburg Castle Park, offers wonderful shade and cool air thanks to its tall trees and large rhododendrons. Enjoy the view of the historic castle setting. Benches and rest areas invite you to take a relaxing break – an ideal spot to linger, especially on hot days.

In the Kühlen Grunde

The route continues to the Kühlen Grunde, where the Gasthof an der Bever, with its historic millwheel and the former monastery, forms a particularly beautiful ensemble. In the cosy beer garden, you can treat yourself to a refreshing drink. The name says it all!

Beach vibes at Feldmarksee

Not far away, Feldmarksee awaits, offering a genuine beach atmosphere. Here you’ll find a lido, picnic spots, adventure golf, walking trails and a pirate ship with a café. If you’re feeling sporty, you can go on a pedal boat or try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding. The ice-cream parlour right by the lake offers a sweet way to cool down.

Sassenberg and Warendorf: Ice cream and Lake Ems

In Sassenberg, it’s well worth stopping off at the famous Zanella ice-cream parlour before continuing on to Warendorf. There, Lake Ems awaits with a wide range of leisure activities and the historic market square, featuring another fountain – and, of course, even more ice cream for the perfect refreshment.

Telgte: The Ems and Old Town charm

The tour continues along the Ems Cycle Route to Telgte. Along the way, Lake Kottrup with its rest area, a stop in Einen-Müssingen on the River Ems, and a detour to the Lonn Bridge with further rest stops at the edge of the forest invite you to take a break – cool air is guaranteed here. In Telgte itself, you can enjoy the Emspark and, of course, recharge your batteries at no fewer than two ice-cream parlours.

Return journey to Ostbevern: mist showers and water treading pools

On the way back, the route takes you to the shaded rest area at Haus Langen on the River Bever and then through the woods to Westbevern. To round off the trip, a refreshing cool-down awaits you in Ostbevern under the two mist showers. Alternatively, you can relax in the nearby water treading pool on the Steuobstwiese and bring the day to a gentle close.

By the way: this cycle tour is also highly recommended on cooler days!
