Schauraum - the festival of museums and galleries

Once a year, Münster 's city centre becomes a showroom. The city's squares are transformed into magical places and the museums and galleries put on their best finery. During the Schauraum, the city of Münster celebrates its art and culture for three days and nights. During the Schauraum, the museums, galleries and studio communities provide a mix of extraordinary productions and attractions. During the event in late summer, the Schauraum exudes a very special attitude to life in Münster. The event impresses with an extensive programme: from art, theatre and literature to live music, there is something for everyone.

Important note

"Schauraum - The Festival of Museums and Galleries" will take a break in 2026. This has been decided by the city of Münster as the organiser. The reason for this is that Münster is hosting another major event this year, the North Rhine-Westphalia Day, shortly before the traditional Schauraum weekend.

3 tips for the showroom

  • There will also be fun and games for younger guests: Children's theatre in the LWL Museum of Art and Culture, creative play and hands-on activities on the "Platz für den Moment" and the large Maxi-Sand sandpit on Syndikatplatz. Just to name a few examples.
  • Would you like to see the colourful hustle and bustle of Münster from above? Then come to Café 1648 on the 11th and 12th floors of Stadthaus 1.
  • The best way to get to Münster is by train! The main railway station is only a 10-minute walk from Prinzipalmarkt.
