Autumn walks and hikes in the Münsterland region

An autumn walk is an experience for the senses - especially on days when the sun breaks through the canopy of leaves.

The colourful leaves rustle under your shoes and look simply wonderful, the air is nice and fresh and the sun's rays warm your face. Even if it can be a little cooler by then, wrapped up warm, a walk in the forest or park is well worthwhile.

Bagno Park

Bagno Park, near Burgsteinfurt’sold town, is the top destination in the Steinfurt district for an autumn stroll. In October, the many trees here glow in shades of gold, orange and red. Stroll through the grounds and enjoy the peace and beauty of this large park. The paths through the park can be combined in various ways to create circular walks of different lengths. The classic circular walk is 3.5 km long. Numerous information boards provide interesting and important details about the history, such as facts about courtly and public life in those days.

Old trees, idyllic paths and streams, a magnificent castle on the edge - Velen Zoo is worth a visit at any time of year. But in autumn, the 55-hectare woodland is a real eye-catcher. You decide how long you want to spend there! We recommend a walk around Velen Castle, straight through the park, past the Fasenerie, along the white Vennbach stream and finally back to the castle.

Venner Moor

The history of the "Venner Moor" near Senden began 6,000 years ago. For a long time, the upland moor was characterised by thick layers of peat. However, as in many other places, large areas of the landscape fell victim to drainage. However, the Venner Moor has retained some typical heath plants and animals. Surrounded by birch forests, a moorland forest has been preserved around water and moorland areas. Two circular trails lead from the "Venner Moor" car park through the nature reserve. Covered in foliage, the moor is simply beautiful to look at!

Length 2.7 or 4.7 kilometres

The last juniper heath in the Warendorf district covers almost four hectares on the Klatenberg in Telgte. It sometimes continues to flower well into autumn. It’s definitely worth stopping here for a picnic: from the highest dune crest in the area, there’s a magnificent view over the countryside. There is a seating area with a table and benches. Please do not leave anything behind and take your rubbish with you.
