HERMANN NITSCH. COLOR AS A MATERIAL
EXHIBITION AT VISCHERING CASTLE FROM JUNE 13 TO SEPTEMBER 26
With the Austrian painter and action artist Hermann Nitsch, Museum Burg Vischering is presenting an exceptional international artist whose works are represented in all major public and private collections around the world.
At the heart of the exhibition are the "pouring pictures", in which Nitsch applies the paint from his container directly onto the picture support in impulsive movements by means of trickling, pouring and smearing. Even in his old age, his entire body follows the rhythm of his movements, the impulsiveness of emotional eruptions, whereby the painting process is in the foreground and the door is opened to chance.
For over 50 years, Hermann Nitsch has been writing art history with his actions, paintings and performances and has also left his mark on the opera and theater landscape in German-speaking countries. Accordingly, his artistic work goes far beyond the medium of painting and articulates itself as a dynamic Gesamtkunstwerk of painting, theater, music and poetry, in which mythology, religion and philosophy merge into a fascinating unity. The exhibition is part of the Münsterland Festival part 11 and takes place in cooperation with Galerie Geuer und Geuer.
THE VENUE: VISCHERING CASTLE
Fresh jazz within old castle walls, rocking open-air concerts in the castle courtyard, museum festivals with crossover music for all generations: First-class concerts with international stars are the hallmark of Vischering Castle, the most important and most beautiful curtain wall castle in Westphalia. The defiant 13th century fortress, which was also strongly influenced by the Renaissance, houses a newly designed museum on its history as well as exciting temporary exhibitions. The castle is surrounded by a unique, idyllic landscape with moats that are perfect for relaxing walks.
