From the series "Nature and Design"
In her photographs, video works, sculptures and drawings, Finnish artist Saara Ekström creates multi-layered experiences for the viewer. Her works are characterized by associative narratives that move in an interplay between reality and fiction, growth and disappearance or the seductive and the repulsive. Various chronotopias - i.e. connections between time and space in a narrative - are placed in a dialog in her works. Time is sometimes the breeding ground, sometimes the undermining of actions and thoughts, reflecting the ambivalent desire to remember on the one hand and forget on the other. Motifs from nature repeatedly appear in the exhibition curated by Dominik Olbrisch, which enter into a tense relationship with motifs from industry, human actions or supernatural phenomena.

In the middle of Billerbeck's picturesque Berkel floodplain lies a building that is unique in terms of both architecture and function: the district of Coesfeld has transformed the Kolvenburg, a 13th century residence of the lower nobility, into a stylish forum for art and culture. It is a place of exquisite music and top-class fine art.
