MÜNSTERLAND FESTIVAL PART 10: NIGGLI KEITA BRÖNNIMANN
The international trio has one foot in Africa and the other in Europe and plays energetic, contemporary world music.
This 'Brotherhood of Vibes and Grooves' took the audience at the Münsterland Festival part 10 on an adventurous ride - from the deepest thickets to the great expanses under the African sky back to Europe.
Aly Keïta is one of the great masters of the balafon, the West African xylophone. The musician from the Ivory Coast introduced the balafon to the music of Joe Zawinul, Omar Sosa and Jan Garbarek. Together with the Swiss clarinettist and saxophonist Jan Galega Brönnimann and the Swiss drummer Lucas Niggli, he fused traditional African repertoire with jazz and improvisation.
At the Münsterland Festival part 10, the three presented their album "Kalo-Yele" ('Moonlight' in the West African Bambara language). It has a human and emotional dimension whose origins lie many kilometers away from Switzerland and several decades ago: Niggli and Brönnimann were both born in Cameroon and have been friends since the age of one. They therefore spent their childhood surrounded by the sounds and rhythms of West African music. The trio's repertoire and interaction are unmistakable.

THE ART CHURCH ST. JOSEPH'S HOUSE IN WETTRINGEN
St. Josefshaus in Wettringen is a former Catholic children's home. Its landmark, the church, was built in 1927 as a solid brick structure and was deconsecrated ten years ago. The three-storey construction, with the altar hall on the second floor, is almost unique. After years of discussion about the demolition of this unusual building, which is a listed building, Berthold Krümpel from Wettringen took on the task of saving the church from demolition. Since 2015, it has served as a studio and exhibition space, workspace, communication hub and place of inspiration for the Wettringen Artists' Community (KGW), which was founded here.
Unfortunately, the Kunstkirche St. Josefshaus is not barrier-free.
