Finnish spruce sauna - Jan Philip Scheibe

The Finns live their forest culture. Almost every family has a hut near the forest, and every one of these huts is guaranteed to have a sauna. That's why it's a must at the Münsterland Festival. In the fall of 2023, artist Jan Philip Scheibe will be building a Finnish sauna on the grounds of the DA, Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst as part of the KunstKommunikation project grant.
In his project "FICHTEN [WÄLDER]", Scheibe creates a special link to the region: the wood comes from dead spruce trunks from the surrounding area. Because our forest home is changing rapidly. What does this do to us, our attachment to the landscape, our forest culture and our longing for the forest?
Participation in the sauna construction and sauna sessions is encouraged. The ceremonial opening, the first heating up and the first sauna session will take place just in time for the festival. The resulting sauna sculpture connects the forest culture with the sauna culture through löyly, sauna beer and discussions.

In cooperation with the DA, Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst.

Immediately afterwards, the Kari Ikonen Trio will play on the stage of the DA, Kunsthaus (ticket required).

The district of Steinfurt converted the former Cistercian convent of Gravenhorst, which dates back to 1256, into an art museum during the Regionale 2004. With its church, mill, mill pond, bakery and brewery as well as its moats, orchards and historic bridges, the almost completely preserved convent complex is now a cultural tourist attraction. In addition to participatory art projects, there are changing exhibitions, light and sound art, concerts as well as art and history education.
