Trio music with strong melodies and rousing rhythms
For more than 15 years, Alexi Tuomarila has built up a reputation as one of the best pianists of his generation in Europe. With his current trio album "Sphere", the Finn, together with his compatriot Olavi Louhivuori and the Norwegian Mats Eilertsen, has released his most successful album to date. This excellent trio is coming to the Kolvenburg for the Münsterland Festival.
The intuitive playing is due to the long relationship between the three artists, who have been performing in this constellation for 15 years. It combines strong melodic, driving, rhythmic solos, Finnish melancholy, free improvisation and Nordic folk elements. Their album "Sphere" received the EMMA award in Finland for the best jazz recording of 2020 and was named BBC Music Magazine's jazz album of the month.
