A mix of styles with the pure joy of music
A mixture of jazz, R'n'B, soul and gospel: this is the music of Maja Mannila from Helsinki. At the Münsterland Festival, the talented singer, pianist and composer will be on stage at Schloss Diepenbrock and Museum Abtei Liesborn together with her trio: Severi Sorjonen on drums and Johannes Granroth on bass. With their English-language songs, they embody freedom and the pure joy of music.
Maja Mannila has already performed with renowned artists such as singer Anthony Strong, and together with pianist Iiro Rantala, her trio recently toured Central Europe with great success. Mannila was also chosen as Finland's official representative in the Nordic Jazz Comets 2023 program.
The young artist's highly acclaimed debut album "Up & Down" was released in June 2022 and her second album has been announced for fall 2023.
In cooperation with Schloss Diepenbrock, the Department of Culture and Education of the City of Bocholt and the Museum Abtei Liesborn.

THE VENUES: DIEPENBROCK CASTLE IN BOCHOLT AND MUSEUM ABTEI LIESBORN IN WADERSLOH
Diepenbrock Castle is a small moated castle in the Barlo district of Bocholt and dates back to the 14th century. To this day, the baroque manor house is situated on an island surrounded by moats. The picturesque park with its old trees is perfect for a stroll. Diepenbrock Castle got its name from the Westphalian term for the impassable marshland that once surrounded it. Because "diepen brock" means something like "deep breach".
The Liesborn Abbey Museum is housed in the former Benedictine Liesborn Abbey, which existed between 1130 and 1803. Today, only the church and the baroque, three-winged abbey and representative building, in which the museum was established in 1966, remain of the monastery ensemble. The museum is widely known for its impressive collection of crucifixes. In 2023, the Liesborn Gospels, an important historical manuscript, returned to the museum.
