Cosmopolitan storyteller

Ghana, the land of storytellers, is the home of Peter Somuah. As a young, acclaimed trumpeter, he continues the tradition of his country and tells musical stories from his travels and his own life. With his cosmopolitan sextet, he explores the connections between Ghana and modern jazz.

His debut album "Outer Space" (2022) was honored with the Edison Jazz Award. It has many African sounds; Highlife, that swinging mixture of sweet palm wine music and the big band influences of the colonial era, and Afrobeat are strongly in evidence. With "Letter To The Universe" (2023), Peter Somuah ventures even further as a traveling storyteller. Between the exuberant mood of his homeland, his idol Miles Davis and the cosmopolitan musical language of his new home, the Netherlands, he embarks on a fascinating search for identity.
