CAAMAÑO&AMEIXEIRAS ON OCTOBER 16 AT THE FARB

"Folk is not dead" ...
... is the quote on Andrés Coll's agency website. And the 24-year-old young vibraphonist from Ibiza, whose mentors include Joachim Kühn, takes this seriously: together with Mateusz Smoczyński from Poland on the violin and Spanish drummer Ramón López, Coll gives the traditional music of their home countries a new dimension. Wild free jazz meets centuries-old melodies. As if through wormholes, the music suddenly catapults into other worlds of rhythm and sound: Changes of style are not announced, they simply happen. Just as vibraphone and violin harmonize quite naturally.
The sound that emerges is "avant-groove" and combines the expressive freedom of avant-garde jazz with driving grooves. A sound that urgently needed to come out of the energetic Andrés Coll at the GBS cultural center.

THE VENUE: CULTURAL CENTER GBS

The almost 100-year-old walls of the Greven cotton mill (GBS) are a reminder of the heyday of the textile industry, which shaped Greven well into the 20th century. Closed down in 1993, the preserved ensemble of buildings comprising the administration building, culture forge, bale store, boiler house and carding mill was gradually put back into operation as the GBS cultural center from 1998. The music school, adult education center, youth café and youth work have found a home here.
