Supporting roles in the spotlight
Voice and double bass are rarely the main protagonists in a duo - quite different with Magalí Sare and Manel Fortià. With her voice, Sare shapes melodies, colors and rhythms with a freedom that touches the audience. She is also a convincing flautist and percussionist. Fortià, one of the new voices on the European jazz scene, elicits unconventional sounds from his double bass: sometimes rhythmic, melodic, sometimes like a small orchestra.
The duo plays with styles, mixing jazz, folklore and pop to create their own sound. Their music is based on cultural exchange and imaginary journeys that sound fresh and original. At the Münsterland Festival in the Pablo Picasso Art Museum, the duo showed how voice and double bass, otherwise usually in the background, can shine together in the spotlight.

THE VENUE: PABLO PICASSO ART MUSEUM
Behind the listed façade in the middle of Münster's old town lies the first and so far only Picasso Museum in Germany. Two historic buildings were connected and converted to create the modern museum building: The Druffel'sche Hof, built between 1784 and 1788 by Clemens August Maria von Vagedes in a strict neoclassical style, and the so-called Hensenbau. The latter was built between 1910 and 1911 by Alfred Hensen using neo-baroque forms.
